Preservation Rhinoplasty: A Modern, Natural Approach to Nose Surgery
If you’re looking for a refined, natural-looking nose without the harsh recovery of traditional rhinoplasty, preservation rhinoplasty could be the perfect solution. This cutting-edge surgical technique focuses on maintaining the natural bone and cartilage of the nose while reshaping it to enhance your appearance. Preservation means “preserving” the best parts of your nose during rhinoplasty.
Dr. Kolstad specializes in this advanced technique. Unlike traditional hump reduction methods that may cause the nose to appear flattened or widened from the front, dorsal preservation techniques maintain the natural structure, resulting in a smoother, more refined nasal contour.

PRESERVATION RHINOPLASTY CASE 18
This complex rhinoplasty involved using multiple advanced techniques to achieve the optimal result. Dr. Kolstad refined the patients profile by combing nose and neck surgeries.
For the patients ultrasonic rhinoplasty, Dr. Kolstad performed a high strip let-down maneuver to lower the bridge while maintaining key surface anatomy. The high strip technique removes cartilage from beneath the surface to reduce a dorsal hump while preserving the nose’s natural, narrow contour. Fascia from behind the ear was used to improve nasal contour by enhancing the soft tissue drape.
A robust cartilage graft was placed at the nasal tip to maintain structural support and prevent drooping during facial expressions like smiling. Tip definition was achieved using cartilage-sparing turnover flaps combined with the polygon tip suturing technique.
The neckline was enhanced using a newer, more advanced technique called deep neck contouring. Unlike traditional liposuction, this comprehensive approach provides more dramatic and long-lasting results—often without the need for a neck lift or facelift.
