PROTEK Hair System

PROTEK Hair System is designed to promote hair growth, maturation and reverse the process of hair miniaturization. Hair follicles that are in a telogen phase may regenerate their life cycle. These prescription strength medications are applied as topical scalp treatments and exclusively sold at Kolstad Hair Restoration. We have three formulations ranging from gentle to full medical potency.

Protek Starter:

Minoxidil 5%, Retinoic Acid 0.01 %, Fluocinolone 0.01% scalp solution.

Our Protek Starter serum is designed for both men and women. The 5% Minoxidil is the same concentration as extra strength Rogaine.  The addition of Retinoic Acid is believed to enhance the penetration and efficacy of Minoxidil. Fluocinolone is a steroid that decreases scalp irritation common with many with topical medications.

Protek Starter hair serum should be applied once to twice daily. We recommend using it after showering or before going to bed.

Protek Advanced:

Minoxidil 8%, hair serum 0.01%, Retinoic Acid 0.01%, Azelaic Acid 0.025%, Betamethasone 0.01% scalp solution.

This serum is a stronger formulation than our Protek Starter. The 8% Minoxidil is prescription strength and cannot be found over the counter. Betamethasone is used to reverse scalp inflammation that also causes hair loss. Retinoic Acid increases the absorption of the topical medicines.  Azelaic Acid is believed to decrease the levels of DHT (dihydrotestosterone). High levels of DHT in the scalp contribute to male-pattern and female-pattern hair loss.

Protek Advanced is safe for both men and women and should be applied once to twice daily.  We recommend using it after showering or before going to bed.

Protek Advanced Plus:

Minoxidil 8%, Finasteride 0.01%,  hair serum 0.01%, Retinoic Acid 0.01%, Azelaic Acid 0.025%, Betamethasone 0.01%, Latanoprost 0.01% scalp solution.

Protek Advanced Plus is our strongest anti-hair loss serum. The ‘Plus’ includes topical Finasteride and Latanoprost. Finasteride is a potent DHT (dihydrotestosterone) blocker and is only recommended for men. Topical Finasteride works directly at the level of the hair follicle and at low concentration should have less systemic effects than Propecia (oral Finasteride).

Latanoprost is a medication similar to Bimatoprost (Latisse). Both medicines have been shown to increase thickness, length, and density of eyelashes when applied topically. Emerging evidence has been encouraging, demonstrating topical Latanoprost increases hair growth in both androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata.

Protek Advanced Plus is only recommended for men and should be applied once to twice daily.

What Is In PROTEK Hair System?

  • Minoxidil:

Available in generic form and under the brand name Rogaine. Protek Advanced 8% Minoxidil is prescription strength and cannot be found in stores. Applying Minoxidil topically can stimulate hair growth.

  • Retinoic Acid:

vitamin A derivative is known to increase the absorption of other medications through the skin, potentially increasing the amount of Minoxidil reaching the hair follicles.  A contemporary study demonstrated that Retinoic Acid and Minoxidil once a day was as effective as Minoxidil used twice daily.

  • Finasteride:

The most effective method of treating male pattern baldness when taken orally (Propecia, 1 mg Finasteride). PROTEK’s topical Finasteride works directly at the level of the hair follicle. Finasteride is a medicine that works by preventing the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is the hormone that causes susceptible hair follicles to shed their hafts, regress and die. The greater the number of follicles possessing a DHT receptor the greater the pattern of baldness in androgenic alopecia.

  • Azelaic Acid:

A naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid found in whole grain cereals and animal products.  Azelaic Acid is potentially an organic 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, which in turn decreases the levels of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the scalp. Azelaic Acid is FDA approved for treating acne, however, it’s efficacy in hair loss is not an FDA approved treatment.

  • Betamethasone & Fluocinolone:

Topical steroids that decrease inflammation in the scalp.  Inflammatory cells around the hair follicles have been shown to cause hair loss and miniaturization of the hair shaft.

  • Latanoprost:

Bimatoprost (Latisse) is an FDA approved method of treating eyelash alopecia. Latanoprost is an analogue of Bimatoprost, a prostaglandin F(2alpha) which is used to treat glaucoma. Increased eyelash density, thickness, and pigmentation have been reported as Latanoprost side effects. Emerging evidence has been encouraging, demonstrating topical Latanoprost increases hair growth in both androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata.
