This time of year is a great time to treat yourself to a treatment or surgery that requires a little more downtime. But, do you know why? Because insurance deductibles have been met, and work tends to slow down this time of year! In fact, you may have time off from work already, so you won’t need to ask for more time off to recover.
We’re here to help provide more information about rhinoplasty (also referred to as a nose job), so you can understand a little more and make a more informed decision about your needs. Keep reading for some frequently asked questions about rhinoplasty.
Who is a good candidate?
Though there are some general health concerns that may keep you from getting surgery, they do not normally vary from those that keep you from getting other surgeries. If you have had weird side effects or didn’t do well under anesthesia, that’s something we want to know.
Otherwise, if you are in good health, it all depends on what you’re looking for. If you are unhappy with your nose, or just a small detail of your nose, you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty. We can help correct the angle of the tip of your nose, narrow the size of your nostrils, or even reduce a bump in the bridge of your nose.
How long is the surgery?
If you are shopping around, some surgeons may tell you different time requirements for a rhinoplasty. Dr. Kolstad prefers to avoid any shortcuts, instead of making sure everything in your surgery is treated with care. Therefore, you may expect to spend around three to three and a half hours in your surgery.
Where are the incisions for a rhinoplasty?
Depending on your needs, you may have incisions placed at different locations of the nose. If you are looking to shrink the nostril size, for example, you may expect incisions on both nostrils, near where the nose meets the face. These may leave scars that are noticeable to a viewer. An incision across the nostrils may be made in the event you want an open rhinoplasty. If you’re concerned about incisions or scars, make sure to bring the topic up during your consultation.
