Under eye bags can make the face look tired. To remove the fat bags under the eyes Dr. Kolstad performs a lower blepharoplasty. Scarless blepharoplasty has an incision on the inside of the eyelid. Lower eyelid surgery to permanently remove the fat and puffiness of the lower eyelid. This is because the incision is created inside the lower eyelid and closed with dissolvable sutures. Patients with excess sagging eyelid skin, however, may benefit from a skin excision as well. This procedure can be combined with the under eye fat bag removal to tighten the appearance of wrinkles on the eyelid.
Recovery after lower eye bag surgery is relatively easy. Most patients will experience swelling, bruising, and a bit of discomfort around the eyes that will typically resolve itself in one to two weeks. These side effects are quite manageable with over the counter pain medications and cold compresses.
